There comes a time in a woman’s life when her desire for intimate connection may decrease. This can be frustrating and scary for many as they wonder how this will affect their relationships. In this stage in life things may not be the same, however, there are steps one can take to reignite your spark for pleasure again. One of these steps is yoga. You can awaken your passion with yoga.
We are talking about perimenopause and menopause and the symptoms may be, well, uncomfortable or dare I say downright terrible for some people.
One may feel moody, emotional, have hot flashes, night sweats, brain fog, or vaginal pain and dryness just to name a few. Your mind may become congested with thoughts and emotions not knowing what is going to happen at any given moment. Feelings of frustration may emerge and the body may react by restricting everything. As a result, one may find themselves less interested and less passionate about pleasure.
As you journey through perimenopause and menopause learn to embrace these feelings and help your body move through this time. Find a way to connect with yourself with tools to help you along the way. Learn to love yourself and as a result your entire life can change and grow.
As these new beginnings emerge, become reacquainted with your body, allow yourself to be present and explore what feels right for you. Allow the body to open up and pleasure to re-enter the body.
One way to assist you during this time is by incorporating Yoga in your life.
Yoga is about You and the connection you have with your body, mind and spirit. Take steps towards self-love, self-compassion, increased self-esteem and self-trust to bring you into this new space. Become aware of these moments, support yourself and build resilience during this new time. By taking a step back this can allow you to awaken your passion for pleasures.
You may be wondering, what, how can yoga help with finding the passion for pleasure again? Let’s explore that.
In yoga we link movement, breath, and presence of mind. Learn to slow your breath and practice gentle yoga postures to achieve relaxation and feel grounded. Yoga helps you feel empowered, stronger and more connected to your body. When you have this connection changes will occur in and around you. We invite inner quieting to release tension to foster expansion from the inside out. By doing this we are honoring the body as a sacred space.
Yoga helps to improve your physical and mental wellbeing.
Yoga postures help to relax your body thereby making your body more supple. But, it also helps to improve blood circulation and strengthens the muscles in the pelvic area. Both critical in finding pleasure.
The Sacral Chakra, Svadisthana in Sanskrit, is the epicenter for our creativity, source of power and where your passion lives. When in balance the body radiates warmth, feels playful, and free to express itself.
By linking specific yoga poses with the breath we ignite the Sacral Chakra, increase the blood circulation in the pelvic area, strengthen the pelvic and abdominal muscles, allow the body to relax and be suppler thereby, igniting your passion for pleasure again.
Some yoga poses that help with the Sacral Chakra are child’s pose, bound angle pose, cobra, and lunges to name just a few. Working with a Yoga Teacher who understands what poses can help these areas is very beneficial. They will help you combine the poses with breathwork and meditation to activate this area.
Other items that can be incorporated to activate the Sacral Chakra are certain affirmations, essential oils as well as sound therapy and working with a carnelian gemstone. Since the Sacral Chakra is represented by water and our ability to flow with change, spending time by the water, an ocean, sea, lake, stream or even a bath is very nourishing for this chakra.
Although it may be uncomfortable at times, perimenopause and menopause can be a better experience.
Changes can be made, your body can adapt and you may find you are even better than ever.
Yoga is a lifelong practice. One to embrace regularly thereby radiating from within out. Utilize the multitude of tools available to you including meditation, breath work, sound healing, essential oils and therapy to guide you through the transition.
This is a journey, it takes time.
Be patient with yourself. You may find you come out on the other side feeling more confident, beautiful, stronger and sexier than ever. Learn to support yourself, foster self-compassion and build resilience. Feel empowered, stronger, and more connected to your body. Utilize the tools you have available to make the transition smoother and reignite your inner fire. Let the journey begin finding the path back to you.
